High Hampton
Cashiers, North CarolinaHigh Hampton is one of the oldest and most historically significant mountain communities in the Carolinas. Founded in 1922 on land that had been in the Hampton family since the Civil War era, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places and remains one of the most recognizable addresses on the Cashiers plateau. Its character is unlike any other community we build in, and we have always approached it that way.
Following a substantial renovation and reopening in 2021, High Hampton blends its century-old identity with renewed infrastructure: a Tom Fazio redesigned par-71 course measuring 6,900 yards, six entirely new holes alongside twelve reconstructed originals, and restored grounds across 1,100 acres at 3,600 feet.
The Architectural Character
What makes High Hampton visually distinctive is its historic building vocabulary. The original structures on the property used chestnut bark siding and wormy American chestnut interior woodwork, and the community has preserved that identity across new construction as well. Building here means engaging honestly with those materials and what they mean, not as a gimmick or a superficial gesture, but as a genuine architectural commitment to the place.
The homes we have built at High Hampton share that sensibility. Natural materials, rooflines that recede into the landscape, porches and outdoor living spaces that acknowledge the mountain setting and the 35-acre Hampton Lake that anchors the community. High Hampton rewards restraint. It is not the right address for maximalist architecture, and the best homes here have always known that.
"High Hampton has a century of character behind it. A builder who ignores that won't last long here."
What Building Here Requires
At 3,600 feet in Cashiers, High Hampton receives significant annual rainfall, and many homesites sit in proximity to wetlands, streams, or the lake itself. Site work requires careful drainage planning and knowledge of the community's specific environmental constraints. The 15-plus miles of trails and the lake create buffer requirements that affect building envelopes in ways that are not always obvious from a survey alone.
We know this land. For clients with a High Hampton homesite or an existing structure in need of renovation or addition, Logan Custom Homes brings the experience and the community relationships to navigate the process correctly from the beginning.
